Carpet 101: Let’s Debunk the Myths

Always one of the most popular choices for the home, carpet is an elegant addition to any environment, from the most traditional to contemporary, and there’s nothing better than stepping into a warm, soft, cushiony floor first thing in the morning!

There are myths galore, however, so Massud & Son is here to debunk them.

Myth #1: I can’t have carpet because I have allergies or asthma.

Nothing could be further from the truth! Now, we often hear, “just sweep dirt, dust mites and pollutants away, because there’s no place to hide.” That’s a good thing, and we’re not disputing that fact, but it certainly doesn’t negate that this flooring is also good for health. This just does it in a different way. Everything gets trapped in the fibers where they stay until you have your floor steam-cleaned. Vacuuming alone isn’t enough, because that machine just can’t get deep enough.

Myth #2: It’s outdated.

These days, there are so many colors and styles from which to choose, that it’s easy to make your own design statement in any environment. Even shag, with its famous gold, green and brown colors of past decades, underwent a transformation in the early 2000s, and now has a large color palette.

Myth #3: I can’t have it because I have pets.

All you have to do is choose a stain-resistant, pet-proof carpet (and they’re certainly on the market!). By the way, pet accidents aren’t the number one concern of pet owners. It’s really traction. Your pet can run and jump without you worrying about skidding and falling, and the warmth, and softness will be especially welcomed by older pets.

Myth #4: It’s hard to care for.

No! It needs regular vacuuming, and you should have it professionally cleaned at least once every 12 or 18 months, or as your warranty stipulates.

Myth #5: It wears out quickly.

No! There are different fibers with different levels of durability and strength. If you are planning to install it in a high-traffic area, be sure to tell your flooring pro, so they can recommend the best one for you.
