Thicker is better

Luxury vinyl flooring comes in thicknesses ranging from 6 mm to 12 mm. This flooring should be at least 8 or 9 mm but preferably higher, especially if you require extra waterproofing,

Wear layers are measured separately. They should measure 20 mils.

How is luxury vinyl waterproof flooring made?

This floor is made from waterproof materials. Therefore, the capability is inherent, needing no special coatings.

Luxury vinyl flooring is also layered, making it five times thicker than the original. Just over the design sheet is a transparent, melamine wear layer.

The wear layer protects the floor from wear and keeps spills from absorbing.

Is water-resistant the same as waterproof?

No. When something is waterproof, it is completely impenetrable. It can be spilled on or submerged without damage.

Water-resistant means it will repel for a short while. However, it will break through and soak, stain, peel, and ripple unless wiped immediately.
