Yes, this is why luxury vinyl flooring is acclimated before installation. Read today's post to learn more about your LVP flooring acclimation process.
Tiny air holes and porosity
Although luxury vinyl flooring is waterproof, there are little cavities that circulate the air. Don't worry–you can't see them.
When the air is humid, the product will expand. The opposite is true if the air is dry. This movement takes place when the product tries to adjust to another climate.
This affects both appearance, performance, and longevity. In addition, the product can buckle, cup, crown, gap, or more.
It can also affect the installation of vinyl plank flooring or LVT. It can make the pieces so rigid that they are impossible to work with; adhesives might not stick, or it could even stress the click-and-lock mechanisms.
Remember that the material can happen even if the warehouse is down the street. That warehouse could have a very different temperature than your home.
Leave opened boxes of the LVP flooring or tile pieces on the floor if you have the room. This is done at least 48 hours before installation.
Temperature changes could be drastic, and this allows the pieces to stabilize. Be sure the room is climate controlled without excessive air conditioning or heat.
This step is often overlooked due to time or knowledge challenges. However, many manufacturers now mandate it in their warranties.
Acclimation is even more critical when the LVP flooring or tile is installed via the floating floor technique. The pieces click, mat, and hover over the subfloor without adhesives. Even the slightest movement can affect balance.
